The Steps

  1. Earn additional revenues per tonne

Your waste recovery service can earn more by selling Kolekt Certificates that prove that you have collected, sorted, processed and recycled waste. We help you verify, issue and sell your certificates via our Kolekt Exchange platform. These certificates are sold to consumer goods companies that need to meet Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) or voluntary targets. Certificate prices can vary from $50 to $1000 per tonne. Read more below.

  2. Better monitoring, better compliance
In order to issue a Kolekt waste recovery certificate your organisation needs to be able to trace materials coming in and going out, you will also need proof of sale and purchase of your outputs and inputs and have had your operation audited. These steps show that your organisation is ready, for environmental licenses, financing, partnerships and more.

  3. Connect with brands
The sale of your certificates on Kolekt Exchange will make your organisation visible for consumer goods companies that are interested in the waste management service that you offer.

The Benefits

What are
Kolekt Certificates?

A Kolekt Exchange Certificate (a KXC) is proof of waste recovery.

It can be proof of collection & sorting, of recycling, of responsible disposal or more. We aren’t just satisfied when waste materials have been recycled or processed, it needs to re-enter the circular economy. It needs to have been sold to a buyer/recipient.

There are no future waste recovery certificates.

The Proofs.
The basis for this proof are
(i) proof of sale i.e. and invoices, receipt, or a 2-party traceability transaction
(ii) proof of purchase i.e. receipt or 2-party traceability transaction
(iii) proof of active operation and license to operate
(iv) a regular and independent audit of the above proofs.
(v) All the above are less than 12 months old.

Types of Certificates

A KXC is proof of sale or delivery of a specified number of tonnes of waste materials due to:

  1. Collection & sorting

  2. Recycling (conversion of materials)

  3. Processing (cleaning, flaking, baling, co-processing, export)

  4. Disposal (in managed landfills, co-processing or W2E)

  5. Reduction and reuse of waste

A Certificate can be sold once

Kolekt certificates are not tradable. The buyer uses it to prove that it has contributed to waste recovery and complies with EPR regulations or volunatery targets. A certificate is ‘retired’ immediately when purchased.

All Kolekt certificates and operators have been verified against double counting. Operators cannot receive EPR funds or payments from (plastic) Credit schemes for the same tonnes.
